Posted: Updated:

On Sunday May 19th, The Discover Channel premiered the new high-definition 7-part series 'North America'.

In the Exclusive First Look Video saguaros are featured, as well as the flocks of sandhill cranes that gather each winter in Southeast Arizona.

According to Charmayne Samuelson, co-owner of the Dos Cabezas Spirit and Nature Retreat Bed & Breakfast, says "About a year and half ago The Discovery Channel film crew, who had filmed much of PLANET EARTH, stayed at Dos Cabezas Spirit and Nature Retreat B & B for two weeks to film the Sandhill Cranes."

The cranes are featured 1 minute, 30 seconds into the video.

Samuelson says "Working with Homer Hansen, Director of Wings Over Willcox and Tom Whetten, a local photographer, and the Arizona Game and Fish, The Discovery Channel filmed at the Willcox Cochise Twin Lakes, at AZ Game and Fish's "Crane Lake" Wildlife Area off of Kansas Settlement Road a few miles south of Willcox, and at Whitewater Draw."

"They set up blinds and would leave our place around 3:00 a.m.," said Jon Samuelson, co-owner of Dos Cabezas B & B, "and they would film all day long, coming back in around seven or eight at night." Samuelson said it was exciting to have them and their incredible array of camera equipment at the B & B, and to watch how they worked. "For two weeks they would film for twelve hours a day, and at the end of each day they would comment they might have ended up with a couple of minutes of usable footage that day." They told the Samuelsons that for this kind of film, the footage "had to be the best in the world."
