It's a call many Arizonans will be forced to make this summer when their air-conditioning unit breaks down and it needs to be fixed right away.
"We have service calls all day," said AC technician Albert Espinoza. "We're running Saturday and Sunday, sun up to sundown."
But how do you know which company will do the job right at the right price, and which ones are a little shady, with a poor track record when it comes to quality and customer service?
Paul Gard of Glendale gets flooded with fliers from an assortment of AC repair companies.
How can he tell which ones are legit?
"You have no clue," Gard said. "It's easy to have flyers printed up. It doesn't mean they are a not reputable company, but it doesn't mean they are."
Mike Donley is president of the Valley's Donley Service Center, which has an A-plus rating from the Arizona chapter of the Better Business Bureau.
He recommends that everyone do their homework before hiring any contractor or AC repair company.
A simple visit to the Better Business Bureau website or Arizona's registrar of contractors could save folks a lot of money and aggravation, said Donley.
"Similar to a doctor, you don't know what's really going on inside of you," said Donley. "Most people don't know what's going on in their AC. There's a lot of mystery, so you want someone you can trust."
Here's a list of five AC companies that have A-plus ratings with Arizona's Better Business Bureau.
The rating is based on everything from how long they've been in business, number of complaints and how the company responds to complaints.
* Magic Touch Mechanical in Mesa.
* Arizona Refrigeration Service in Tempe
* Cool Touch Air Conditioning and Heating in Surprise.
*Absolute Comfort Cooling and Heating in Glendale
* Donley Service Center in Phoenix.
Here's a list of five AC companies with an 'F' rating from the BBB.
* CPM Air in Mesa
* Al-Tech Energy Management in Phoenix
* Leading Edge Air conditioning and Heating in Chandler
* Mark's A/C & Heating Service in Glendale
* Collins Lee Air Conditioning located at 8927 N 2nd Way, Phoenix, AZ 85020
It's also a good idea to make sure the company you want to go with has a current license and is registered with the state, said Donley.
