Tucsonans have seen construction underway for the new court complex downtown and now a bit of ‘bling' is coming to the building.
It's a piece of art set to distinguish the newest building from the other court facilities in the downtown area, and it is called ‘Desert Mosaic'.
The multi-hued glass changes colors from different vantage points. The $317,000 public art component was administered by the Tucson-Pima Arts Council, under contract to Pima County.
It is part of a county policy requiring a project to set aside 1 percent of its budget for public art.
The ‘Desert Mosaic' is installed 48 feet above the lobby floor. Half of the panels were set last week, with the remainder to be set in place later this week.
