TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - U.S. Customsand Border Protection officers arrested a man who attempted to smuggle more than $1 million worth of marijuana into the United States.
Officials at the Port of MariposaCommercial Facility discovered the 2,000 pounds of pot in the suspect's big rig truck by using an x-ray scanner during commercialinspections on Friday, according to a news release.
The total value of the drugs was estimated to be $1,014,350, concealed in a shipmentof 1,000 bags of charcoal.
The 44-year-old unnamed suspect is described as a male Mexican national. He was referred to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's HomelandSecurity Investigations.
