The body of a 16-year-old boy was found by a gas worker Friday alongside a roadway in northern Arizona, authorities said.
The worker had pulled off Interstate 40, just east of Ashfork, and found the body in a turnaround area, the Coconino County Sheriff's Office said.
Investigators said the victim suffered trauma to his head.
An autopsy was conducted Monday. The cause and manner of death won't be announced until after the doctor's review.
Detectives are conducting area searches, as well as several interviews.
A suspect has not yet been identified, according to the sheriff's office.
