PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Jodi Arias' attorney Kirk Nurmi has asked to withdraw from the case on two occasions.

The Maricopa County Board of Supervisor's meeting on Wednesday is expected to include a vote to approve $200,000 be moved to help pay for Nurmi's salary.

Nurmi normally makes $125 per hour. In a previous attempt when Nurmi asked off the case, the court denied his request and increased his rate, doubling it to approximately $225 per hour.

"At that time, the court ordered that he stay on the case, and in addition to that, he be paid [more than] the typical $125 an hour rate," said county spokesperson Cari Gerchick.

"He's actually being paid $225 an hour," she continued.

Arias was convicted on May 8 of first-degree murder in the death of her ex-boyfriend, Travis Alexander.

On Monday, Nurmi said one of Arias' friends, Patti Womack, who was scheduled to be a witness allegedly received death threats and was scared to testify. The judge reiterated on Tuesday that Womack would not be present to testify on Arias' behalf.

Nurmi's request for a mistrial was based on his claims that Arias had not gotten a fair trial because their motions to sequester the jury and keep cameras out of the courtroom were denied.

After the judge denied the request, Nurmi immediately followed with the defense's request to withdraw from the case.

The judge also denied the request to withdraw, and Nurmi told the judge that Arias would be the only person to testify on her behalf in the penalty phase of the trial.

Arias' fate is now in the hands of the jury deliberating whether she will spend the rest of her life in prison or be executed.

To date, the case has cost the county more than $1.6 million to prosecute.
