Shots fired, no one hit, after man flees from traffic stop

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - A 24-year-old man is facing aggravated assault charges after running from Pima County Sheriff's Deputies during a traffic stop at River and La Canada Wednesday night.

The sheriff's department say they stopped a vehicle in the Walgreens parking lot around 9:15 p.m. During the traffic stop, two individuals ran from the car towards a second vehicle in the parking lot.

The second vehicle attempted to leave the scene and deputies stopped it. During that stop, a young man exited the vehicle and ran.

A brief foot chase ensued and in the process the man fell to the ground and deputies heard a gunshot. They drew their weapons and one of the deputies discharged his firearm.

The 24-year-old man was successfully taken into custody, after a brief struggle. The young man was not shot in the incident, but was later transported to Northwest Hospital for precautionary reasons.

None of the deputies involved were injured in the incident. Criminal charges are pending and the investigation continues.
