Phoenix firefighters turned into temporary wranglers as they battled a fire that broke out among some makeshift barns Friday morning.
The fire was spotted about 2 a.m. in a pasture area that also contained about 10 horses near 64th Avenue and Van Buren Street, said Phoenix fire Capt. Jonathan Jacobs.
A fire truck was able to maneuver to the barns, chicken coops and other structures and used a jet gun on top of the truck to knock down the flames.
Seven of the horses were trapped on the south side of the property and crews had to herd them to safety on the east side, Jacobs said.
He said there was no threat to any houses in the area.
No damage estimate was available and no cause had been determined, but Jacobs said it didn't appear to be suspicious.
