TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Two men were arrested in separate incidents of suspected drug smuggling Saturday at the Mariposa Port of Entry in Nogales.
According to a news release from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Joel Amador-De Los Santos, 33, was arrested when a CBP officer found 10 packages of methamphetamine in the gas tank of his Chevrolet truck. The drugs weighed nearly 13 pounds and had an estimated value of more than $198,000.
In the second incident, Jose Nicolas Plascencia-Gonzalez, 51, was arrested when a CBP service canine alerted to the dashboard in his Honda sedan, and officers found 14 packages of drugs, the release said. Officers seized nearly 14 pounds of meth, more than two pounds of heroin, and more than five pounds of cocaine worth more than an estimated $291,000.
