Jonathan Galvez's walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth gave the Tucson Padres a 3-2 win over the Fresno Grizzlies Wednesday at Kino Stadium. The Padres are three games over .500 on the season and leaped over the Grizzlies for second place in the Southern Division.
Tucson went up 2-0 in the third with the help of an RBI single by pitcher Sean O'Sullivan and Gregorio Petit's RBI double to center. O'Sullivan raised his average to .545 with the hit and has eight RBIs on the year. Cole Gillespie cut the Padres lead to 2-1 in the seventh with a triple to the left-center field gap.
Johnny Monell hit a game-tying home run with one out in the top of the ninth to knot the score up at 2-2. After the Grizzlies recorded the first out in the bottom of the ninth, Galvez launched a home run to right of the center field batters' eye to end the game. Galvez has hit four home runs this season, all coming against Fresno. The last walk-off home run for the Padres came from Bobby Kielty on August 5, 2011.
Tucson reliever Daniel Stange earned his first win of the season, while Heath Hembree was charged with his first loss for Fresno. Stange and starting pitcher Sean O'Sullivan struck out a combined 15 batters, tying the Padres single-game record.
