County to examine 5 skeletal remains Tuesday

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

The Pima County Medical Examiner will examine the skeletal remains next week of five people found earlier this week on the Tohono O'odham reservation.

Border Patrol agents on Tuesday morning found the remains near Sells in western Pima County.

Medical Examiner Dr. Greg Hess said the scene looked unusual, like an attempt to conceal the remains.

"What does it represent?" Hess asked. "Could it be foul play? Yes. Could it be five people who died crossing the desert. Maybe."

Hess said the remains were found under rocks, wrapped in a tarp-like material.

Until an examination, scheduled for Tuesday, Hess said he does not know the ages, sex of IDs of the people.

Tohono O'odham Police are investigating.
