Prop 100 to expire, remove sales tax increase

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

If you are planning to make a big purchase soon, you might want to wait a few days to save yourself some money.

Starting Friday, a one-cent sales tax increase in Arizona will end, making your purchases a little bit cheaper.

The state sales tax will drop from 6.6 percent to 5.6 percent as of Saturday.

Voters passed Proposition 100 in 2010, with the proceeds going to pay for education, health and human services and public safety.

Gov. Jan Brewer was a big proponent of the measure. Friday, she will join business leaders in Phoenix to talk about how the tax helped Arizona weather the fiscal crisis.

Despite a sentence of 40 years to life, the Arizona Board of Executive Clemency voted to release him from prison into home arrest. Family members of the victims are concerned for the safety of the community, as are new members of the Clemency Board. CBS 5 Investigates videotaped Huff riding a bike through his Tucson neighborhood. There are no restrictions placed on his proximity to children.
