Law enforcement students to graduate Friday

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

The Pima County Sheriff's Department will hold a graduation ceremony for its Basic Law Enforcement Training Academy, class of 2013, on Friday, May 31 at 10 a.m.

Twenty-two graduates will be recognized at the ceremony at the Pima Community College West campus in the Proscenium Theater.

The 20-week process to become a certified law enforcement officer includes theoretical and practical instruction, defensive tactics, driver's training, firearms training, among other types.

Nineteen graduates will become deputies, two officers will be with the Oro Valley Police Department and one officer with the United States Air Force Security Police/ Reserve Deputy for the Pima County Sheriff's Department.

The graduates range in age from 21 to 46, and have a variety of professional backgrounds, to include an archeologist, an insurance salesman and several former military members.
