Arizona Rugby advances to quarterfinals

PHILADELPHIA, PA -

The Arizona Wildcats Rugby Sevens team suffered an excruciating 21-19 to Dartmouth to conclude pool play in the 2013 Collegiate Rugby Championships in Philadelphia.

The Big Green scored a try to tie the game and converted their two-point kick on the final play of the game to steal the win from the Wildcats.

This came after UA had taken at 19-14 lead on a try by Craig Samoy with 2:30 minutes to play.

Arizona finishes the pool with a 2 - 1 record and advance to the national quarterfinals at 10:00 a.m. (EDT)  Their opponent will be Cal.

The loss to Dartmouth was Arizona's first ever pool play loss since the event was begun in 2010.  Arizona is now 10-1-1 all time in CRC Pool Play and the Wildcats are one of just three schools to have qualified for the quarterfinals in all four events.  The others are California, and Dartmouth.

The CRC Quarterfinals will feature:

California V. Arizona
Life V. Kutztown
Penn State V. Navy
Dartmouth V. UCLA

If Arizona advances, they would play the winner of the Life V. Kutztown match.

There will be no TV coverage of the quarterfinals. NBC SPORTS NETWORK WILL SIGN ON AT  2:00 EST.  THE NBC NETWORK WILL BEGIN COVERAGE AT 3:30 EDT.

OFF THE PITCH NOTES: Arizona alum and eagles Quarterback Nick Foles was the honorary captain for Arizona on Saturday afternoon. He attended the UA Alumni tailgate with another former Wildcat Kyle Quinn who was just drafted by Philadelphia.  Nick was on the side line for the Penn match and spoke to the team after the match.
