PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Phoenix police have linked Jesus Molina, 24, to the hit-and-run death of Officer Daryl Raetz.

Molina has been charged with manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident.

"Through the evidence and through interviews with witnesses, as well as interviews with leads, we have developed probable cause to charge Jesus Cabrera Molina with those charges," said Phoenix police Sgt. Tommy Thompson.

Raetz was working a DUI traffic stop in the early morning of May 19 when he was struck by a hit-and-run driver, near 51st Avenue and Thomas Road in Phoenix.

Investigators claim that Molina was driving impaired when he ran over Raetz and took off.

Molina was arrested about 10 hours later and taken into custody on unrelated drug charges.

Raetz, 29, had been with the Phoenix Police Dept. for six years.

He was a military veteran and leaves behind a wife and young daughter.

"This is one step closer to offering closure to our family, the Raetz's family, and the family in the Phoenix Police Dept., as we move forward on this issue," said Phoenix police Chief Daniel Garcia.
