TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - A motorcyclist died Monday afternoon following an accident in west Rio Rico.
According to officials, 40-year-old Oscar Bojorquez, Jr. was discoveredunconscious on Calle Toruño and was en route to a local hospital when he succumbedto his injuries.
Santa Cruz County Sheriff Tony Estrada said three people came upon theaccident and called 911, and the Rio Rico Fire District paramedics and firepersonnel responded to the scene around 1 p.m.
First responders drove Bojorquex to the County Public Works Building on RioRico Drive. He was then airlifted by helicopter to the University of ArizonaMedical Center in Tucson but died on the way to the hospital, Estrada said.
"Speed may have been a contributing factor, which may have led to loss ofcontrol," Estrada said. "We're still investigating to see if there were othercontributing factors."
A witness said Bojorquez landed around 100 feet from his bike. He was alsonot wearing a helmet.
