Teacher certification group offers advice on career change

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Many people have made the career change to teaching, or at least thought about it. Tonight you can learn how to do just that.

There are two informational sessions scheduled today at the Valencia Library at 202 W. Valencia Road. The first one will be at 4 p.m. and the second will begin an hour later.

The meetings are being hosted by the nonprofit, Arizona Center for Teacher Preparation.

The Arizona Center for Teacher Preparation is approved by the state board of education to offer an online certification program.

They are seeking professionals who are looking to make a career change and who want to go into the classroom.

The goal is to get more qualified teachers who may have related work experience, especially in the STEM field, where there is a significant shortage in Arizona classrooms.

In fact, only about 10% of 8th graders in the state have a math and science teacher with an undergraduate degree in those subjects.

There are also meetings tomorrow night at the Woods Memorial Library, and on Thursday at the Martha Cooper Branch Library. For more information you can visit the Arizona Center for Teacher Preparation website.
