Babysitting courses offered to young teens

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Now's the time for young people to learn how to be a better baby-sitter.

The Women's Center at Northwest says it's offering the nationally-recognized SafeSitter course.  The two-day class will be offered June14 & 15 or July 26 & 27 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  The class is for boys and girls ages 11 to 13 years old.

The class is designed to prepare pre-adolescents for babysitting. The class is led by specially-trained instructors and includes:

• What to do when a child chokes and how to provide rescue breathing

• Safety for the sitter

• How to call for emergency help

• Babysitting business skills

• Child care essentials and behavior management

• How to entertain children and keep them safe

•How to provide CPR

The CPRcurriculum follows the American Heart Association and the American Academy ofPediatrics guidelines.

The cost of the two-day class is $90 which includes atake-home manual.  The class will take place in the NorthwestMedical Center Event Center, 6060 N. Fountain Plaza Dr, Suite 130.
