House votes in favor of VA appropriations bill

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

The House voted Tuesday in favor of a bill which addresses the backlog in veterans' healthcare.

The H.R. 2216, FY 2014 Military Construction/VA Appropriations bill provides funding to the VA and many measures to combat the backlog.

According to a news release, Congressman Ron Barber voted in support of the bill. Barber has introduced and cosponsored multiple bills in support of veterans, according to the release.

"We cannot allow the men and women who have served in our armed forces to be left behind when they return to civilian life," Barber said. "That is why I was pleased to vote for legislation today that will add disability claims processors to the Veterans Administration, fund the conversion of paper records to electronic records and develop an integrated health record system for the Department of Defense and the Veterans Administration. We must eliminate the backlog at the VA and this legislation is a step in the right direction as our country moves to ensure that veterans get the benefits they have earned and without delay."
