An Arizona man is in custody on suspicion of shooting two people at an Arizona campsite in the Seligman area, the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office said.
The victims, both men, were airlifted Wednesday evening to Las Vegas-area hospital and are expected to be OK. They were identified as Edward Blanchette, 49, and Calvin Andrews, 63.
Officers with the Hualapai Nation Police Department notified sheriff's authorities about the incident in the Hyde Park area.
When deputies arrived, they encountered a third man, 55-year-old Rex Ferguson, who told them Blanchette had pulled out a handgun during a fight and pointed it at him and Andrews.
Ferguson said he retrieved a rifle and shot Blanchette in the shoulder, according to YCSO. Ferguson was detained and detectives from the Criminal Investigations Bureau were called to investigate.
The dispute concerned the behavior of dogs at the campsite, deputies said. Detectives located and seized all involved firearms.
At first, authorities believed Andrews had suffered a gunshot wound to the head. It was later determined his injuries were less serious and likely not the result of a gunshot, but non-bullet fragments, YCSO said.
During their investigation, detectives learned that Ferguson was a convicted felon and legally prohibited from possessing deadly weapons. He was booked at the Camp Verde Detention Center on a felony charge of weapons misconduct - prohibited possessor.
The probe into the incident continues.
