TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

A Tucson woman accused of killing her own baby is starting her sentence.

Denise Pesqueira will spend 200 days in jail and eight years on probation.

She pled guilty to negligent homicide.

She could have been sentenced to 12 years in prison.

Pesqueira was tried twice for murder, but the juries could not reach a unanimous verdict and the judge declared mistrials both times.

Investigators say she told a friend that she had given birth and put the baby in the trash.

Police believe the baby was born in August 2009, but the infant's body was never found.
