Former congressman convicted in corruption case

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

A federal jury in Tucson has reached a verdict in a corruption case against former Arizona Congressman Rick Renzi.

His lawyer says the jury convicted Renzi on 17 of 32 counts Tuesday in connection with a land swap scheme.

He was found guilty on one count of conspiracy indicating attempted extortion of Resolution Copper Co., extortion of PPFLI/Olympia Group and Honest Services wire and mail fraud; six counts of Honest Servies wire fraud; one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering; one count of concealment of money maundering; two counts of transactions in criminally derived funds; two counts of Hobbs Act extortion under color of official right; one count of conspiracy to make false statements; two counts of false statements to influence insurance regulatory investigations; and one count of racketeering.
