PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A Phoenix family has their dog to thank for helping them safely escape a blaze at their home.

The Phoenix Fire Department said firefighters put out the fire in the 3200 block of East Holly on Tuesday afternoon after a family dog alerted a mother and her children to the fire.

The family was able to escape safely but the dog is unaccounted for, according to Phoenix fire officials.

Fire officials say the fire caused extensive damage to the west part of the house and a vehicle in the driveway.

The cause or estimated damage cost of the fire have not been released at this time.
