Supreme Court suspends law license for local attorney

A Cincinnati attorney who has acknowledged a longtime gambling problem has been suspended indefinitely from the practice of law.

The Ohio Supreme Court states in a 7-0 ruling that Thomas Leksan (LEK'-suhn) could seek reinstatement in two years under conditions including completion of a recovery contract with the Ohio Lawyers Assistance Program. The court found that Leksan's gambling and alcohol addictions contributed to misconduct, including misappropriating and mismanaging client funds.

Leksan had told The Associated Press last year he expected to lose his license, and that he had already lost his marriage and home. He said Thursday he hadn't seen the opinion yet but hopes to be able to seek reinstatement.

The court says he has aggressively sought treatment and made good-faith efforts to repay clients.
