Fire season is in full swing in southeast Arizona, along with the surrounding southwest regions, and Tucson, AZ is the primary location for the Southwest Zone Interagency Fire Dispatch Center.
The primary function of the center is to assure there is enough firefighting resources to fight fires in the southwest area after resources have been taken to fight fires in other areas.
On Friday a wildland firefighting crew will arrive in Tucson from Grangeville, ID. The wildland firefighters have been brought in as a precaution in case a wildfire were to start in southeast Arizona.
A majority of the crews that were stationed at the center in Tucson have been assigned to fires in New Mexico. The center wants to make sure there are crews on hand to start fighting any fires that might begin in Arizona.
