TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

The developer of the Grand Canyon Skywalk has passed away after a four-year battle with cancer.

Las Vegas businessman David Jin, 51, passed away Thursday night in Los Angeles.

Jin focused his career on bringing tourists from his native China to the United States to experience the Southwest through his charter and touring business, Y-Travel.

Grand Canyon Skywalk Development, another of his companies, designed the most recognized cantilever structure in the world, the skywalk over the Grand Canyon west rim. The development opened in 2007.

"David loved America and particularly the Southwestern region," Anita Wong, manager of Far East marketing for Oriental Tours, Inc. said. "He was a compassionate man who was enamored with the Grand Canyon and Las Vegas. Together, we have built relationships throughout Asia and across the world creating a pipeline of tourism for the desert Southwest. I will continue our work and make David proud."

He is survived by his wife, Yvonne, son Michael and stepdaughter Catherine Han.
