Inmate allegedly killed at state prison

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

The Arizona Department of Corrections reports an inmate was killed at the state prison in Buckeye today.

Officials say 63-year-old John Jones was administered CPR before being transported to West Valley Hospital, where he was pronounced dead from an apparent homicide.

Jones was housed in ASPC-Lewis in Buckeye since March 23, 2000 to serve 40 years for sexual assault, aggravated assault and kidnapping. He was sentenced out of Yavapai County.

The department's criminal investigation unit and the county medical examiner's office continue the investigation.
