'Serial Shooter' dies is state prison, officials say

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

The Arizona Department of Corrections reports that an inmate has died today at the state prison in Florence from unknown causes.

The 40-year-old inmate Dale Hausner, also known as the "Serial Shooter," was reportedly found unresponsive in his jail cell around 12 p.m. on Wednesday.

CPR was administered before he was taken to Florence Hospital at Anthem where he was later pronounced dead around 1:15 p.m.

He was convicted on March 13, 2009 of a total of 80 crimes and was sentenced to death out of Maricopa County. His convictions included six counts of first degree murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault, cruelty to animals, among others.

Hausner had been housed at ASPC-Eyman in Florence since March 30, 2009.

The department's criminal investigation unit and the County Medical Examiner's Office continue to look into the investigation.

    The Tucson Police Department is asking for the public's help locating 17-year-old Anthony Garcia. The teen is described as Hispanic, 5'10" tall, weighing 150 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. Although he is in his late teens, according to the release, he has special needs and functions at a much younger age.
