Anyone planning a camping trip or other activity on the public lands of Arizona should leave a campfire out of their plans. The same goes for smoking. Fire managers increased restrictions Wednesday so that any open flame, other than gas stoves and lanterns, is prohibited. The dry conditions have made wildfire concerns too great to allow campfires right now.
But restrictions can vary from local to state to federal lands. Check http://wildlandfire.az.gov or call the toll-free Southwest Fire Restrictions Hotline at 1-877-864-6985 to see what the rules and penalties are where you plan to go.
