Drivers in Ohio and Kentucky are going to be hit with some major lane restrictions.

It's all part of the Revive the Drive project in an effort to improve future driving conditions.

Beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 21, the following ramps will be closed in Ohio, along with I-471 southbound lane reductions, due to work on the I-471 Daniel Carter Beard Bridge:

  • Westbound Columbia Parkway (US 50) entrance ramp to I-471 southbound
  • E. Fifth Street entrance ramp in downtown Cincinnati to I-471 southbound
  • The two lane I-471 southbound entrance ramp from eastbound Fort Washington Way (US 50) will be reduced to one lane
  • Traffic from I-71 southbound in Ohio will be reduced to one lane approaching the Ohio River Daniel Carter Beard Bridge

In addition, the following closures are planned during work in Kentucky:

  • The right lane on KY 8 eastbound under the I-471 Ohio River Bridge will close on or around June 20th, and will remain closed until early August.  This closure is due to work on the bridge above the lane.
  • This weekend, beginning at 7:00 PM on Friday, June 21st, and extending through Sunday night, crews will be installing traffic control for lane restrictions on I-471 southbound beginning in Ohio on the approach to the Daniel Carter Ohio River Bridge. Traffic may be reduced to a single lane at times during this period. Upon completion of this work, traffic will be in a shifted position and will be restricted to two lanes from the Ohio River Bridge to just north of Exit 1 (I-275/I-471 Interchange). Both shoulders will be closed throughout this work zone. This traffic pattern will continue until further notice.
  • Traffic is currently reduced to two lanes and is in a shifted position with both shoulders closed from Exit 5 (KY 8) to just north of Exit 1 (I-275/I-471 Interchange). This traffic pattern will continue until further notice. The speed limit through this section is 55 MPH.
  • At Exit 1 (I-275/I-471 Interchange), traffic in the left lane must exit at exit 1A to I-275 eastbound. Traffic in the right lane may exit at 1B to I-275 westbound or continue through the interchange to US 27 at Highland Heights. Shoulders are also closed in this area. This traffic pattern will continue until further notice. The speed limit through this section is 45 MPH.
  • At the intersection of KY 471 and US 27 in Highland Heights, left hand turn movements onto north US 27 are prohibited while traffic is reduced to two lanes for the construction.
  • The I-471 southbound entrance ramp from Memorial Parkway (KY 1120) is closed until further notice. Traffic is being detoured onto I-471 northbound to Exit 5 (KY 8) and then back onto I-471 southbound. This closure is expected to be in place through mid July.
  • The I-275 westbound ramp (Exit 74A) to KY 471 southbound and to US 27 in Highland Heights is closed. Traffic is being detoured to continue westbound on I-275 to Exit 77 (KY 9) and back onto I-275 eastbound to Exit 74A. This ramp is expected to be closed until June 24.
  • Traffic maybe furthered reduced to a single lane during nighttime periods throughout the limits of the project.
  • Work is being performed along the I-471 SB ramp to I-275 WB. Traffic should use caution in this area and watch for construction vehicles entering and leaving the roadway along this ramp.
  • Traffic may encounter flagging operations with short delays on Three Mile Road at the I-275 overpass as part of the work being performed in the area adjacent to Three Mile Road.
  • Expect delays until this project is completed later this year.
  • Use caution when traveling through the project and watch for slowed or stopped traffic. Watch for construction vehicles entering and leaving traffic throughout the work zone. The speed limit is reduced through the construction zone and will be enforced.

Closures planned for I-275 WB at the I-471 interchange in Campbell County:

  • The I-275 westbound ramp (Exit 74A) to KY 471 southbound and to US 27 in Highland Heights is closed. Traffic is being detoured to continue westbound on I-275 to Exit 77 (KY 9) and back onto I-275 eastbound to Exit 74A. This ramp is expected to be closed until June 24th.
  • The right lane on I-275 westbound at the I-275/I-471 Interchange is closed. This closure extends for approximately one-half mile. In addition traffic is in a shifted position with both shoulders closed through this area. This closure will be in place until further notice.
  • Crews are working along the right shoulder of I-275 WB in this area. Watch for construction vehicles entering and leaving traffic in this area.
