The Lake County Sheriff's Office says a motorcyclist was seriously injured after an SUV ran a red light at an intersection in Perry Township Friday night.
Just before 7 p.m., sheriff deputies along with the Perry Twp. Fire Department responded to the intersection of S.R. 84 and Madison Ave./Vrooman Rd. for a reported injury accident.
According to a press release from the Lake Co. Sheriff's Office the investigation revealed that a 59-year-old Painesville resident was operating his 1985 Honda Motorcycle northeast bound on S.R. 84 and had stopped to make a left turn onto Madison Ave.
As the motorcyclist was waiting to turn, a black SUV entered the intersection west bound from Vrooman Rd.
Authorities say the SUV had run a red light at the intersection and struck the motorcyclist, flipping the bike onto its side and ejecting the operator to the pavement.
The SUV slowed for a moment then fled the scene west bound on Madison Ave.
The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Deputies say evidence located at the scene suggests that the SUV was possibly a Chevy Equinox between the model years of 2005 and 2009.
The SUV was last scene heading north bound on Park Rd. near Hale Rd. where a witness lost track of it.
The SUV sustained front end damage and lost part of its grill assembly at the scene.
The Lake County Sheriff's Office is asking anyone with information that might help in locating the suspect vehicle to call 440-350-5260.
