Stark County Sheriff investigating fatal shooting of 9-year-old

MINERVA, OH (WOIO) -

Deputies with the Stark County Sheriff's Office are investigating the fatal shooting of a 9-year-old boy.

Around 5:16 p.m. Friday, deputies were called to 16355 Maplelane S.E. in Minerva for a report of a 9-year-old who had been shot.

The victim, Matthew Joseph Schreckengaust was transported to Aultman Hospital by the Minerva Fire Department where he died.

The house where it happened belonged to the boy's aunt and uncle.

According to the Sheriff's Department, it appears Schreckengaust was accidentally shot by his 14-year-old cousin. 

The Stark County Sheriffs Office is continuing the investigation.
