Local activists rally over new immigration reform proposal

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Activists from around the Tucson area rallied at El Tiradito Shrine, next to Tucson Convention Center in downtown. Representatives from Border Action Network, Coalicion de Derechos Humanos and No More Deaths were among those who turned out.

They voiced their opposition of a new amendment focusing on increasing border security. The Senate is expected to vote on the proposal at 2:30 p.m. Tucson time.

This proposal would add close to 20,000 border patrol agents, extending border fencing to 700 miles and spending billions on drones and new technology.

Tucson News Now's Matt Mendes is working on this story and will have more on later editions of KOLD News 13.
