Power has been restored to six families on the Northwest side after a transformer explosion.
It happened around 5:15 p.m. on the 6400 block of North Avenida Pina. Because of the triple digit heat, Red Cross placed eleven residents in hotel rooms for the night.
By 9:40 p.m., Tucson Electric Power crews had restored power.
"It sounded almost like a small bomb," said Bo Spencer. "It wasn't too powerful but shook the windows a bit. It startled us and we all jumped. We went in the backyard and saw the transformer was smoking and dripping a bunch of fluid."
It's unclear if heat was a factor.
