2 killed in wreck on Pettus Road

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A single-car fatal crash on Pettus Road claimed the lives of two passengers, one of them an infant.

The car's driver is in critical, life-threatening condition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

The crash occurred just before 3 p.m. in the 5900 block of Pettus Road after a 2007 Ford Fusion being driven by Ebony Scales, 24, briefly traveled onto the right grass shoulder.

Scales lost control of the car, which then crossed the opposite lane of traffic, went off the roadway and struck a tree.

Scales' front seat passenger, Jonathan Meza, 26, of Hidden Creek Drive, was ejected and died at the scene.

The couple's 11-month-old son and rear passenger, Robert Meza, was in a child seat when the car crashed.

He was transported to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital where he later died.

Ebony Scales was in critical but stable condition on Monday morning.

The crash remains under investigation.  There was no evidence at the scene of alcohol or drug involvement.
