TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Tesko, an 8-year-old German Shepard, was awarded a plaque from the Nogales mayor for serving the Nogales Police Department since 2008.

NPD's K-9 coordinator, John Zuniga, accepted the award on Tesko's behalf Wednesday. Together, the team was featured in the 2012 Animal Planet series "Law on the Border."

During Tesko's 5-year career as a drug-sniffer with the Nogales Police Department, his alerts to police have led to the seizure of more than 250 vehicles, 20,000 pounds of marijuana, 40 pounds of cocaine, 30 pounds of methamphetamine and 7 pounds of heroin.

Tesko is from Slovakia. His new home will be with Zuniga.
