Summer is over for many students in Vail

VAIL, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Happening today, summer vacation is already officially over for some students.

It's back to the books this morning for students in the Vail School District.  Classes began at 7:35 a.m. for kindergarten through eighth graders at Cottonwood Elementary in Vail.

High school students in the district will have until Friday, and then they return to school as well.

Many may ask why so soon, with it only being the middle of July; the Vail School District operates on a modified schedule.  That schedule includes an obviously shorter summer break, but more vacation time during the school year.

Vail students get a couple of additional weeks off in October and March, plus two weeks for Christmas break.  With that additional time off during the year, that means coming back to school today, in mid-July.
