A 7-year-old boy was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, after he was found at the bottom of a backyard pool, Phoenix fire officials said.
The arriving Phoenix police officer started CPR and paramedics took over, when they pulled up in the 5900 block of E. Juniper St.
The child had been swimming with four other children ranging in age from 5 to 11, fire authorities said.
The child was not a strong swimmer, and was using inflatable armbands designed to help him float in water and learn to swim, fire officials said.
The children had been swimming for several hours, took a lunch break and then entered the pool again, paramedics said.
The child was found at the bottom of the pool, without the inflatable water wings.
