Posted: Updated:

Colorado had one of its worst wildfire seasons on record.

One fire threatened the scenic Royal Gorge bridge.

The Royal Gorge wildfire started on June 11th and burned 3,218 acres by the time it was contained just five days later.

The Royal Gorge Bridge & Park was hit hard with 48 of 52 structures destroyed by the flames.

However, the Royal Gorge Bridge suffered only minor damage and remains standing high over the Arkansas River.

The below image was taken from the International Space Station on June 25th.

The dark areas are the fire burn scars.
