There is a new way for children in the community to build up their self-esteem or just simply get in shape riding into town.
It's called ‘Junior El Tour', and it is a 12 week program that trains kids for the 40-mile ride of El Tour de Tucson. The program is for 10 to 13-year-olds and they are still looking for girls to join.
The program helps at risk children who are struggling with something, could be weight, something at home or just simply confidence.
After applying, interviewing and being selected participants are given everything they need, a new bike fitted for them, jerseys, water bottles and an intense training regiment, three times a week.
Tucson News Now spoke with a Junior El Tour organizer who stated the kids come in with some troubles, but leave feeling accomplished and go forward with confidence in school and at home.
At this point organizers say they have filled most spots for boys and are looking for young girls who are interested in applying.
The application deadline is the end of next week.
