Police arrest hit-and-run driver after major accident in Tyler

Emergency crews responded to a major hit-and-run accident near the intersection of Old Jacksonville Highway and Loop 323. 

According to Tyler police, 25-year-old Daniel Massad was headed eastbound on the loop in a Dodge pick-up when he ran a red light and collided with a car turning south on to Old Jacksonville Highway. Massad then got out of his car and ran into a wooded area near the intersection of DC Drive and Old Jacksonville Highway. 

Officers set up a perimeter and located him exiting a brushy area about 30 minutes after the crash.. Authorities found a substance that is believed to be crystal meth in the suspect's car. He was placed under arrest for hit and run, evading arrest and possession of a controlled substance.

There were three vehicles involved in the accident. No serious injuries were reported.
