PACC reopens for adoptions, urgent intake

Posted: Updated:
TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Pima Animal Care Center is open again today after being shut down yesterday because of a death at the facility.

The shelter at 4000 N. Silverbell Road had to be closed after a state inmate who was volunteering there committed suicide. At this point the inmate program is suspended. Both the Department of Corrections and the PACC will be looking into the incident. The inmates are used to help the volunteers with cleaning the dogs and kennels.

PACC will be open today until 7 p.m., and will accept strays and owner-relinquished animals on a limited basis only because of overcrowded conditions.

The Humane Society of Southern Arizona has opened an emergency location for drop offs.

The location is at their Companions For Life Center on Kleindale in Midtown.
