TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona football's junior running back Ka'Deem Carey was named to the Doak Walker Award Watch List on Thursday. The award is presented annually to the nation's top college running back. Carey was one of eight Pac-12 players recognized.
Carey was named to eight All-America teams, including Walter Camp, The Sporting News and the Associated Press, to earn consensus All-America honors from the NCAA in 2012. He was named 2012 All-Pac-12 First-Team and ended the season as the nation's leading rusher in yards per game (148.4) and total yards (1,929).
He broke Trung Canidate's single-season school-record rushing mark of 1,602 yards from 1999 in the first quarter of the Arizona State game on Nov. 23. Against Colorado on Nov. 10, he broke the Pac-12 and UA single-game rushing records with 366 yards on the ground. His 1,929 yards rank No. 5 in Pac-12 single-season history. Carey's 24 touchdowns (23 rushing and one receiving) ranked No. 5 nationally and No. 1 in the Pac-12 while breaking the Arizona single-season rushing TD school record.
Carey has also been named to the Maxwell Player of the Year Award Watch List. He was named to Athlon Sports' 2013 Preseason All-America Team as a first-team running back. He's also on the College Football Performance Awards All-Purpose Performer and Running Back of the Year Award Watch List. Additionally, Carey was named to Phil Steele's 2013 Preseason All-America Second Team.
The recipient of the 2013 Doak Walker Award will be announced live on The Home Depot College Football Awards on Thursday, December 12, on ESPN. The Doak Walker Award Presentation Banquet will be held in Dallas, Texas, in February 2013.
