Walk-off Magic!

Posted: Updated:

Jaff Decker capped off a four-hit night with a walk-off RBI single in the tenth to hand the Tucson Padres an 8-7 victory over the Colorado Springs Sky Sox Friday at Kino Stadium. The win improves the Padres extra-inning record to 6-2 and keeps the team's first place lead at 1.5 games.

The Padres rallied for two runs in the eighth including a game-tying RBI single from Gregorio Petit. Tucson had a chance to win the game in the bottom of the ninth with the bases loaded and one out, but Steven Hensley was able to get out of the jam with a two foul pop outs.

After Petit led off the bottom of the tenth with a single he later came around on Decker's single to left to seal the win for the Padres. Jaff spoke with Tucson News Now's David Kelly after the ballgame.

Ben Paulsen's three-run double with two outs in the top of the first put the Sky Sox ahead early. The lead was short lived, as the Padres responded with three runs of their own in the bottom of the first to tie the score.

In his second game since joining Tucson, Scott Moore launched a two-run home run in the third to put the Padres on top, 5-3. Moore finished the night with four hits and two runs scored.

The Sky Sox got one run back in the fifth on Charlie Culberson's RBI groundout to cut Tucson's lead to one. Ryan Wheeler knotted the score at five in the sixth with a solo home run into the right field bullpen and Tim Wheeler's RBI single later in the inning put Colorado Springs up 6-5. Corey Dickerson's RBI single in the seventh extended their lead to 7-5.

Miles Mikolas earned his third win of the season, while Hensley was charged with the loss after surrendering the game-winning hit in the tenth. Tucson starting pitcher Anthony Bass yielded five hits, three earned runs and one walk in five innings of work.
