TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

A 28-year-old man was critically injured and his 5-year-old son was seriously injured after the pickup truck they were in rolled over.

Northwest Fire District crews and Pima County Sheriff's Department deputies were called to a cement plant gravel pit west of Interstate 10 and Sunset Road just after 11:30 p.m.

According to a news release from the Sheriff's Department, the truck was part of a group that was four-wheeling.

According to NWFD Capt. Adam Goldberg, crews had to use four-wheel drive vehicles to reach the accident site because fire vehicles could not safely reach the scene.

The driver, who was ejected from the truck in the accident, was airlifted to the University of Arizona Medical Center with critical, life-threatening injuries. The boy was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, but they're considered non-life threatening.

The Pima County Sheriff's Department is investigating the incident.
