A woman seriously injured in a single-car rollover last month has died and the driver now faces felony charges.
Police say 19-year-old Angel Ruelas was allegedly under the influence of alcohol when he lost control of his vehicle while on a dirt road in the 2400 block of W. 44th Street on June 23.
His female passenger, identified as 18-year old Alicia Deegan, was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle as the car left the road.
She was transported to a local trauma center and later taken via helicopter to the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix where she succumbed to her injuries on July 22.
Ruelas initially fled the scene of the incident but was later returned by family member, according to a TPD news release.
Ruelas received minor injuries and police say he had been wearing his seatbelt.
The preliminary investigative findings indicated that Ruelas may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision.
Ruelas was booked into the Pima County Jail.
