The Pima County Sheriff's Department is investigating a motorcycle accident on the northwest side.
Deputies responded to the area near Thornydale Road and W. Cortaro Farms Road just after 2:40 p.m. where they say a man was reportedly driving in and out of traffic, yelling at vehicles. Witnesses say that man was on a motorcycle and was almost hit several times.
The first deputy to arrive on scene was talking to a witness on the side of the road when they saw the motorcyclist headed southbound on Thornydale at a high rate of speed. He lost control and rear ended the back of the deputy's patrol vehicle, according to a sheriff's department news release.
The motorcyclist was taken to UAMC with life-threatening injuries.
Sheriff's Traffic Unit deputies determined he was not wearing a helmet and speed contributed to the incident.
The investigation is ongoing.
