Representatives with the Tucson Unified School District say schools are planned to start on August 1, despite the impact a severe thunderstorm had on some school buildings.
Buskirk Elementary School sustained roof damage and flooding on July 26 and Carrillo
Elementary School had a water leak that has since been fixed. Officials say ten
more schools were also impacted but operations staff have been working since
Friday to assess the properties.
According to a news release, Van Buskirk teachers and staff held planning meetings off site Monday to allow cleanup work to continue.
Some Van Buskirk classrooms will remain closed until all repair work is completed, and some affected classes will be held in other parts of the school. Officials say the school's air conditioning and other systems are working.
Van Buskirk registration is still set for Tuesday and plans to start classes on August 1.
