President Obama to visit Phoenix area school Tuesday

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - President Barack Obama will visit the Phoenix valley Tuesday.

He'll be speaking at Desert Vista High School, in Ahwatukee. The president is expected to talk about ways to help struggling homeowners, those looking to buy a home, and the middle class.

Preparations for the presidential visit were underway over the weekend and throughout Monday. Trucks were visible Monday at the entrance to the Desert Vista school gymnasium where the president will speak, and excitement was in the air all day Monday, according to the school's principal.

"There has not been anyone disappointed the president is coming to Desert Vista High School, you know, when you put it in perspective," said Dr. Ana Battle.

Why Desert Vista? The principal isn't sure, but she thinks it may have something to do with the school's convenient location and a physical layout that makes it easy to set up the event without disrupting classes.

Seniors will be allowed into the gym to watch the speech, and they will have to be on their best behavior. "We are going to have formal attire ties collared shirts belts tucked in no tennis shoes no canvas shoes ladies businesslike," said Battle. The rest of Desert Vista's students will see the president on TV screens in their classrooms.
