MINNEAPOLIS, MN – Tucson teen Delaney Schnell has one again dazzled from the diving board on the national stage.
Schnell (Tucson Diving Team) grabbed the 14-15 girls platform gold medal at the 2013 USA Diving Junior National Championships.
She won the title with a score of 373.80 points, with Nikki Watters (New Albany, Ohio) not far behind at 369.75. Camryn Hidalgo (Mission Viejo, Calif.), who won the 1-meter title on Tuesday, was third.
The win also means Tucson High freshman-to-be will likely have the chance to perform on the world stage in her own hometown.
Winners at this event will be used to select Team USA for the Junior Pan Am Diving Championships, which will be held September 26-29 at UA's Hillenbrand Aquatics Center.
This is the second time Schnell has won at this event in her age group. She took the platform title in 2011, but finished third last year. That third place finish though earned her a trip to the FINA World Junior Diving Championships where she took 6th place.
Schnell won the platform title at the USA Diving Age Group Championship as an 11-year old in 2010.
